How to stop Amazon SES from adding awstrack.me to all my email links

Wordpress Tips - Website Maintenance

We are using FluentSMTP as the email handler/plugin for our WordPress website and Amazon SES (Simple Email Service) for sending emails. This setup is highly recommended, and we have been very pleased with it for years.

We discovered that all the links in the emails (WooCommerce order emails, Form emails, Support tickets, etc.) got changed in the final email to customers and us with an awstrack.me link and ID. awstrack.me is Amazon domain.

Amazon SES changes all links in emails sent from our WordPress website to track who and when links are clicked. We do not like this as it adds another step (slower) and 3rd party security issues, and in some cases, it messes with our own systems and workflows.

Step-by-step guide to turn off Amazon SES tracking feature

This is for those of you not using any Amazon SES Configuration sets (and probably also for those using them).

  1. Log in to your Amazon SES Dashboard and choose your region top-right.
  2. Click Virtual Deliverability Manager > Settings (left panel mid)
  3. Click Edit (Additional Settings module)
  4. Check “Turn off engagement tracking
  5. Click “Submit settings

Hope this helps! 🙂
