As a young woman, I moved to a new city to start a new job, and although I was feeling a bit lonely and homesick, I was determined to make the best of it. One day, I met a charming man named Jack at a coffee shop. He was dark and handsome, with a smile that could light up a room. We hit it off right away and spent the whole afternoon talking. The conversation flowed effortlessly, and we found ourselves laughing and joking like old friends. Later on, we exchanged numbers and started texting each other. I couldn’t wait to see him again.
A few days later, I came down with a terrible cold and felt miserable. I was not up to anything and just slept and sobbed and was not able to go to work. After two days in this misery, I received a text from Jack inviting me to dinner. I declined, feeling too sick to go out. However, Jack surprised me a few hours later with a quick visit, bringing me his self-made tomato soup and shovelling the snow from my front porch before leaving. I was touched by Jack’s kindness and felt grateful for his warm and nourishing soup. We spent the next day chatting and laughing, and my spirits lifted. I realized that Jack was more than just a charming man – he was my true love.
From that day on, Jack and I became inseparable. We went on many more dates, and Jack continued to surprise me with his kindness and generosity. We got married two years later and had two beautiful kids. And although we have been on many vacations and to great restaurants around the world, that tomato soup is still, to this day, the best dish I have ever tasted. It was a symbol of Jack’s love for me, and it always reminds me of that special day he came to my rescue.
Years later, when our kids had grown up and moved out, Jack and I sat together on our front porch, sipping tomato soup and reminiscing about the past. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the trees. It was a perfect moment, and I felt grateful for everything that had led us to this point.
I looked at Jack and smiled. “You know,” I said, “What made me fall in love with you was your tomato soup.” Jack laughed and kissed me on the forehead. “And what made me fall in love with you was your sneeze,” he said. We both laughed, and I felt my heart swell with love.
Who would have thought that a bowl of tomato soup and a few sneezes could lead to a lifetime of love? We’ve had our ups and downs but always had each other and a recipe for our happiness. It’s a recipe we’ve perfected over the years with a dash of trust, a pinch of patience, and a lot of laughs.
And just like that tomato soup, it must be made entirely with love.
