The Be-Do-Have framework for change

The Be, Do, Have framework for success

What if I told you that the key to creating true transformation in your life was to flip your thinking completely? To focus on who you are rather than what you have?

We’ve been conditioned to approach life with a Have-Do-Be mentality, but that conditional approach never works. The Be-Do-Have framework completely flips this traditional thinking on its head, and that’s where real transformation begins.

The Be-Do-Have mindset for authentic change

The Be-Do-Have mindset is a powerful framework for transforming your life. This simple yet profound mental model flips traditional thinking on its head.

Most people approach life with a Have-Do-Be mentality:

  1. I need to have X.
  2. Then I can do Y.
  3. Then I’ll be Z.

“I need more money, then I can do what I want, then I’ll be fulfilled.”

“I need to have a partner, then I can feel loved, then I’ll be content.”

But this conditional approach never works. Placing your identity and fulfilment in the future, dependent on external things, is a recipe for disappointment.

The Be-Do-Have framework takes the opposite approach:

  1. Identify as and become the person you want to be.
  2. Make decisions and do as the person you want to be.
  3. You’ll naturally get the things the person you want to be have.

“I will identify as a fulfilled person now, then I do things that fulfilled people do, then the money will naturally follow.”

“I will identify as a content person now; then I do things that content people do, then I will naturally attract a partner.”

This model focuses your power in the present instead of placing it in an imagined future. It’s a reminder that you are in control of your reality.

As the quote goes: “Mend your garden, and the butterflies will come.” Focus on your internal state of being, take aligned actions, and what you want most will come when you’re truly ready.

Here are some actionable ways to apply Be-Do-Have thinking:

  1. Define how you want to feel and who you want to be. Not what you want to have. Paint a vivid picture.
  2. Ask yourself what actions that version of you would take. How would they spend their time? What would their habits and routines be? Then start doing those things now, to the best of your ability.
  3. Notice resistance to embodying your new identity. What limiting beliefs or stories come up? Question them. Choose to release them and claim your new identity.
  4. Focus on progress, not perfection. Consistent daily action creates profound change over time. Find joy in the journey.
  5. Express gratitude now for what you desire as if it’s already yours. Your environment responds to the energy you put out. Choose to be a magnet for what you want.

Crafting an identity and life you desire doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t require some big, elaborate plan. It simply requires you to make a choice. A choice to be the person you desire to be, in this moment. A choice to act in alignment with your new identity, even if you don’t feel like it. A choice to detach from specific outcomes and trust in something bigger.

You have the power to transform yourself and your life. Tend to your inner garden and trust that what you want wants you too. Be, then do, then have. Starting with who you want to be is better than trying harder.
